Dear Dr. Nath, Ive had the best week Ive had in almost 2 1/2 years! Im teaching a full schedule, SINGING again (booked into May,2005!) and even socializing and walking some again. Best of all, I can manage this activity with very little pain medication. Im using a TENS unit several hours daily as you suggested and it really helps, whereas before my surgery, electrical stimulation provoked pain. Surgeons who have performed a high number of certain difficult procedures have significantly better success rates than those who haven't, according to an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine. While the study may drive patients to more seasoned M.D.s, making it harder for less seasoned ones to get needed practice, you still have the right to know your surgeon's case count.
